Although the salmon is facing a tough time which vindicates committees decision for 100% catch and release it is a delight to see that the ogmore is probably the best sewin fishery in Wales when you look at size of river to catch ratio and is rated by NRW as a top 8 river. This season again is outstanding, with more fin clipped sewin being caught and recorded, doubles galore, and more two pounders than ever. It makes the years of work and effort of promoting catch and release or donate worth while when you see such encouraging statistics with the ogmore becoming a premier fishery for sewin once again.
I was in west Wales last week and the rivers are in big trouble, no salmon to be seen in cenarth in a perfect flood and spring tides, and most fish are still being caught and killed on nevern. They are inviting 100% catch and release which the NRW will oblige sooner rather than later. How they police this is anyone's guess.
