The culture Minister will be shortly publishing a green paper in order to change legislation that will allow canoeists and rafters to navigate our waters. The Association is actively involved in a campaign to stop this. Please visit our website or www.accesscymru.org to register you support YOUR SUPPORT IS VITAL TO PROTECT OUR FISHING

Fished from dipping bridge up to leisure centre on Saturday and was surprised find around 20 canoeists from Swansea University canoe club on the river. They were polite but ignorant of access restrictions. Once they had passed I had a nice fish too!

I spoke to them after a phone call at that time they were at the Swany bridge under the motorway . I made them aware of the issues and took photographs of their vehicles I am yet to download them and pass them on. As I was mindful of the numbers involved I asked them to respect anglers who were lawfully going about their business. I also gave the secretary's telephone no's to the chap who appeared to be the leader. At about 5.30pm they were in the dipping bridge pool as a former member phoned me. Until someone is prosecuted and fined heavily we are batting on a sticky wicket as far as I can see there is no case law.

This month's Trout & Salmon has an article advising that the Welsh Government minister has decided not to proceed with the Bill to allow free access to canoeists on Welsh rivers. We've won (for the moment)!
