I am asking if there were any of our members down at the swing bridge on Wednesday 24th July Between 4-6pm that may have witnessed a very disturbing incident with regard to a cygnet. Two children under the supervision of there so call responsible parents started to throw stones at the cygnet. One member of the public saw the incident but to my disbelief did nothing to discourage the children or to ask the parents to take their children in hand. One of our bailiffs who patrols that area on a regular basis arrived but the children and adults had left, leaving behind a very injured cygnet. He called the RSPCA who attended but the bird was too badly injured, the cygnet was taken away to be put out of its misery. If you do have any information of any sort then the RSPCA and also the police would love to follow this incident up and bring these people the justice as this is a criminal offence.
