Recently the trips have not been well attended and although we have a junior compertition there has not been much else going on. As events and youth co - ordinator I would like to ask all members (seniors and juniors) what sort of events would you like to see being offered?
Here are some ideas but I would like you to post others so we can provide things that interest our members.
Compertitions with other clubs. Casting clinics for beginers, intermediate and advanced casters. Fly tying days for beginers. father and son compertitions. Introduction to entamology morning. Seatrout evening. trips to other waters.
I look forward to reading your ideas.
Geraint

Personally I'm not really interested in competions with other clubs or trips to stocked waters. I would be interested in events which helped improve my skills in fishing our own river Ogmore. I would look forward too and support some sort of casting clinic(s) . An event focusing on sea trout skills would also be of interest. It must be a difficult task to try and organise events that get members involved Geraint. Well done and thank you for your efforts . Phil

Geraint when i was organising events in the association we used to have a catch and release event against the Ospreys from Merthyr this was for brown trout two teams about ten each with the same amount of stewards to measure caught fish in lengths of guttering 1 point per inch .was pretty popular as well .if you need more info let me know.Organising events are a nightmare as a lot of the members wanted different things.I did the job for ten years and quite enjoyed it.cheers Ogmore 4(glen)

Geraint as ogmore 4 says we used to have a thriving set of trips/events and very well organised they were too, but in recent times interest in events seems to have taken a turn for the worse even when free transport and free food are laid on! this is not just current to fishing clubs but to many clubs in general but it was good to see so many commitee members at the xmas trip leading from the front but a pity with 500 members the turnout from members was again poor. What is the answer-i dont know, but i wish you the best of luck-a beginners day for new members to meet current members see areas to be fished ,talk tactics and maybe a pub lunch would be helpfull (see llandysul angling club ) along with a casting clinic session as suggested in a recent post by waddington!-goldhead

For the last 2 years I have been trying to organise a sea trout night, the problem has been that the arrangements have only been posted on this forum. I have organised crates of Beer/cider and food at my own expense with only one or two members attending. A mid-summer barbeque perhaps in July could work with a casting clinic early evening especially how to side cast, avoid trees, and a sea trout session or catch and release competition after. Perhaps we could involve the council? Offering casting classes to the junior members and non members the future of our club, there are certainly a number of outstanding fisherman in the club to help.

As a result of recent legislation, coaching, coaching kids and any form of involvement where training takes place with kids requires individuals to have certain qualifications and have been CRB checked. Without the qualifications, you are unable to get a license to coach. It hasn't been fully implemented yet but will be in the near future.
This has implications on what the Association can and can't do otherwise there are liability implications.
However, I am fully licensed and qualified to teach/coach fly dressing, single handed and two handed casting. I have already spoken to Geraint about organising regular evenings throughout the summer for casting clinics for both double and single handed rods. Topics we can cover will include distance (which everyone wants!), single handed spey casting techniques, double haul, single haul, double handed casting including spey, skagit and shooting heads and general technique improvement for all.
We can also have a couple of techniqure evenings and discuss surface lure work, singles, tubes, waddingtons and how to fish them, how to approach a pool, reading the river and identify likely taking/holding spots that fish might utilise.
I'm involved in the above with several clubs and associations doing similar already. It is primarily for members but open to non members and works quite well. The sky's the limit really and just depends on participation and expectations. If any or all of this can be incorporated with a barbecue one evening, this would be great.

Further to the recent letter which members should now have received, the annual trip is to be held at Pant Y Bedw fishery, Carmarthenshire.
