The season is now over and our migratory fish are now pushing further up the system.
The limited number of Environment Agency bailiffs do not carry out any proactive patrols on the Ogmore at this time of year.
To this end we urgently appeal to members to step forward to help us patrol the spawning grounds this November and December.
On Sunday 2nd November members who can lend a hand should meet at the Smithy Cafe, Blackmill Square at 9.30am.
Members who are not familiar with our spawning grounds will be shown which areas we patrol so that they can keep an eye out for us durning the forthcoming spawn.

Thank you to the members who attended our walk on the spawning grounds earlier today.
It was pleasing to see some large redds on one of the tributaries. I will not talk about any fish that were seen too much for obvious reasons but it was pleasing to see a number of small sewin, a good illustration that stocks are slowly recovering after some lean years.
Any members who are interested in patroilling our spawning grounds can meet on one of our pre arranged dates.
The next organised patrol will take place on sunday 9th November meeting at the Smithy Cafe, Blackmill at 9.30am.
Our band of bailiffs are obviosly patrolling the river throughout the week on a regular basis so if weekends are not convenient please contact myself for details.

On the Ogmore we have recognised for some time that we need to monitor and patrol the spawning streams at this time of the year to try and protect the salmon and sea trout when they are perhaps most vulnerable. The EA have no interest or resources in fullfilling this role so we are doing our best to protect what we have got. To anybody that has not got involved in in this stage of the life cycle I can thoroughly recommend it. To see a salmon redd the size of a dustbin lid on your home river is an exciting experience and for me added a new dimension to my fishing experiences. This one found high up on one of the tribs unfortunately had seccumbed to the rigours of spawning ;D ;D ;D Ian

The river is rising and coloured with more rain expected so unfortunately the walk and meet scheduled for tomorrow morning will have to be cancelled.
Cheers

Hopefully the fish in the upper system are currently safe and well with the high water conditions and promise of more rain over the weekend.
We will not be arranging a patrol this weekend but please keep looking at the forum for updates on patrols.
