Bad news I'm afraid, there has been a significant diesel pollution incident on the Ewenny today at Waterton industrial estate.
The Environment agency have identified the culprit and clean up measures have been put in place. Hopefully the reasonable flow on the river at the moment will help limit the damage to fish stocks but the next 24 hours are critical.
Would any members that have a grayling ticket cease fishing over the next few days the so that any fish that may be distressed hopefully have a chance to recover.
We need to be vigilant any signs of fish mortality should be reported to the EA

I was walking the dog as usual along the Ewenny this morning . I was opposite the watermill @ approx 11.45 am and the stink of diesel was unbelievable , the whole river was covered in it , as you say the river was flowing well and now that the mass of debris along that stretch has been removed ( or is now on the bank untill the next high tide / rain) this should help a little ...

I was notified of a significant incident on the Ewenny yesterday by the Environment Agency.
20,000 litres of diesel entered the river and a clean up operation was immediately put in place.
The source of the pollution was traced.
Lets hope the culprits have more than a slap on the wrist this time.

Lets hope the damage has not been too severe. Have there been any reported fish kills?

It was stated in the gazette that there had been a fish kill and contractors had seen a couple of dead fish.
