Some good news! Following on from The OAA becoming life members of the WTT, I had the pleasure of spending six hours yesterday with Andy Thomas who came to give us an advisory visit. The Wild trout trust promotes the protection and sustainability of wild trout through habitat improvement and conservation of water courses and surrounding ecosystems. The main purpose of the visit was to assess the viability of our spawning streams. Much of the time was spent "wellies on" in-stream assessing the invertebrate life and juvenile fish activity. Areas visited included: Tescos(overview) Wildmill(overview) The swanee run(overview) Blackmill Junction(overview) Ogwr fach (spawning trib) Ogwr Fawr(spawning and nursey area) The main river through the centre of Ogmore vale The Dimbath(spawning trib) The moors (Ewenny) We were joined for lunch and in the afternoon by our vice chairman Dave smith for the walk in the Dimbath area. The day was rounded off on the moors stretch of the Ewenny as Andy was very interested to see first hand some quality Welsh grayling ;D I don't wish to pre-empt Andy's report which will follow in a couple of weeks but he did comment that of all the spawning catchments he had visited we have some of the most unspoilt, unimpacted streams that he had ever seen with very good habitat and spawning potential. More to follow...... Ian Finylas Habitat and conservation officer

Thank you for the report Ian.
I am sorry I could not be present for the visit. Many thanks to the Vice Chairman and yourself for giving up your time for the Trust's visit.
I will look forward to the feedback that is given by the Trust.
