Ashley,
If you are a new member and are new to fly fishing, we would be happy to help you out and give you a few tips. I don't know if you are an adult or junior member? We have a junior competition on sat June 9th. We will also be providing fly casting lessons and advice to members irrespective of adult or junior membership. We will be sending out a newsletter in the next few days giving further details.
Hope this helps.

Hi,
I have had a lot of luck recently on baige, olive and black hackle buzzers with gold heads. These flies produced 13 fish for me in April and early may. Baring in mind ive only been on 4 trips to the river in April.
hope ive helped, Ross

Gold heads are pretty good - but one more tip. Use small flies. I use size 16 - 18 goldheads (such as hare's ear) and they are deadly when cast to rising fish. If you can't get the small sizes locally you can get them on e bay. Regards Rog

Make sure you have both some specific and generic patterns. pheasant tails in 12-16 Hares Ears in 12-16 Czech nymphs (for winter fish) Also some appropiate dries - be they small sedge, hawthorn, daddies, chironomid/midge patterns, ants, beetles etc Find what the fish are feeding on first and then try and match to it as best as possible. I have a single river box for wild trout and nothing is bigger than a 12 and I keep a mix of patterns such as a CDC emerger, F-Fly, Bubble caddis, mayfly, adams etc as well as a range of "buggy" looking nymphs. The final thing is patience - the fish will come with time patience, refining your technique (eg minimising drag) and some faith... once they do they'll keep on coming. Best of luck with i... more guidance, hints, tips and patterns can be found here: www.flyforums.co.uk/Jon
