As only 2 members turned out for the first clean up of the season, some members decided to get together and clean the town section of the river. It is a shame that some members will obviously only attend if financially rewarded. I wanted to thank Andy, Berwyn, Fitzy and Ian for helping me on Sunday 20th and to Andy and Berwyn tonight 21st, especially Andy in his wetsuit recovering the grapple that was stuck in two buried trollies. We removed 11 trollies courtesy of Tesco, Sainsburys and farmfoods, 3 bikes, 3 scooters, 2 trees and a load of other crap. It is reward enough to know the river is a safer place for all.

There are numerous members who have faithfully attended cleanups for many years long before you even came on the scene and certainly not for financial gain so i think these remarks especially from a council member are apalling- yes it seems you want members help when it suits but in other areas such as stocking you do not want members present!! many persons cannot attend on certain dates as believe it or not some actually have to work at weekends etc so yet again you openly berate those members whom for many reasons may not be able to attend is unfair. there have been many occasions when only two or three of us turned up for cleanups and i do not rememberyou been one of those persons but did i place inflamatory messages on the forum NO!- IS THIS THE COMMITEE LINE MR RYAN? ?

never heard of a club that does not want members present at stocking ,whats to hide are we stocking 20 pound salmon ,its only a couple of hundred little brownies we used to stock 1000 2 to 3 ib trout every fortnight and it was always members present always keeping stocking secret dosnt make much difference to poaching ,the poachers go when and where they want they are not restricted to fishing methods like us members it should be any method from the start so us and the poachers got the same chance

Members not being welcome at stockings? Maybe a case of Chinese whispers?
To clarify a few points:
1) At the request of the hatchery owners, the Association ceased using it's own tanks to stock the river and stocks directly from the hatchery's own transport and tanks. This limited the need for physical help during the stockings. However members have never been told that they are not welcome to view the stocking on the river.
2) The Association has never stocked 1000 2-3lb fish on a fortnightly basis. The Association has traditionally stocked no more than 3000 in an entire season with the odd larger fish thrown in as a bonus by the hatchery owner.
3) The council has nothing to hide as suggested. Maybe this comment could be substantiated? The Council is quite transparent with regards to stocking arrangements and these are available at all times should you wish to contact any Council member.
If any members wish to view the next stocking, then they are able to contact our fisheries officer who's number appears on members permits.

sorry about the confusion i meant to say it was when i was a member of a resevoir. point i was trying to make was about poaching and stocking, we never saw an increase in poaching when it was public knowledge about stocking in fact the opposite because there were always more members about after stocking ,sorry about any confusion
