I appreciate the fact that the club do not wish to discuss the details of fishing rights on an internet forum. I'd also like to say that I have a great deal of time and respect for the professional way the club committee have gone about their business in recent years, doing what I'm sure is always a difficult voluntary job.
However in the long term, it cannot be acceptable for club members to be harassed on the lower rivers by the 'gentlemen' whose signs have been decorating several trees. It's all very well saying 'carry on fishing', but confrontations like the one described on this thread, are the very thing that most of us go fishing to avoid! At the very least it leaves a sour taste in the mouth. Surely it is possible for the club to think in terms of perhaps going down the route of obtaining an injunction to stop members being continually harassed?
The current situation is not sustainable in the long term. A solution needs to be found sooner rather than later!

Gents,
I am sorry that your fishing has been disturbed by these 'gentlemen' who never seem to have a rod in their hand.
Unfortunately an injunction in this case is not an option since the waters are registered by Land Registry.
We cannot go down the route of an injunction until the registration is overturned in our favour. Unfortunately this is a lengthy process.
I realise how frustrating this is, but I can only appeal to you keep a cool head. If you feel threatened, harassed or are sworn at please call the police.
I know it is easy to advise members to carry on fishing our waters, but unfortunately I cannot offer any further advice. All such advice that is conveyed to members is on the instruction of our Solicitors

Thanks for the reply OAA1 . Just in case anyone gets the wrong end of my previous post I would like to make it clear that I was not criticising the committee in anyway! The position has at least been made clearer now and it's good to hear that the matter is in hand. Personally I am not at all concerned by these 'gentlemens' spurious claims, but I do resent having my own or others time on the bank being spoiled by this kind of nonsense. In actual fact I have yet to bump into this charming pair. OAA1 has given good advice. These people are no doubt from the sound of it, trying to provoke an incident. Do not give them the satisfaction and ignore them. Almost certainly they will get bored very quickly! Members can safely ignore any threats of the police getting involved as this is a civil dispute. It is up to this dynamic duo to sue for trespass, where unfortunately for them they would have to categorically prove they hold the fishing rights. The fact is they know they won't succeed in such an action, cannot or are unwilling to commit the funds and so prefer to act as nuisances / bullies on the bank. I look forward to this all coming to an end as soon as possible. Phil
