I took advantage of the later sunset to cycle up and down both banks of the middle river this evening and started to feel excited about the return of the first of the sewin in about six weeks time. Some of the lies and pools look to have changed a little over the winter but second quessing where the fish will show up is all part of the challenge these magnificent fish bring.
Can't wait!

Yes the Ewenny does have some very early large sewin in April. A few years ago I spotted a pod of very large sewin in mid April during dead low water while I was after trout. And no they were definitely not mullet! Unfortunately as I found out they are less than easy to catch from such a clear small stream in low water conditions even at night.
These fish are very thin on the ground, but their size and quality means if you have the time they are worth the long shot and a bit of effort. The fish in the pod I spotted averaged about 6 -7lb - the largest was well into double figures. I shall definitely be giving it a go especially if we get a bit of water!
