What are members views on the enforcement provided by the Environment Agency on the Ogmore?

What enforcement would that be. I don't know of any.

Yes Royn you are quite correct!
Does any EAW enforcement exist on the River Ogmore?
I attach below a post from the SeaTrout forum entitled 'Anarchy on the Ogmore' which has attracted much debate:
When the subject of lack of EAW enforcement was first discussed on the forum, it was in the context of a threat to our fish stocks from illegal anglers and poachers and not as a threat to legitimate anglers.
With regret, I have to report that this lack of EAW presence on our river has created a monster of a problem. A problem that could jeopardise our sport and one of wales' largest angling clubs.
Over the past few weeks the level of illegal anglers on the River Ogmore has created a dangerous situation. Almost a day hasn't gone past without calls to our club bailiffs from concerned members.
In the past few weeks we have dealt with gangs illegally fishing with spinners and bread, 'travellers' turning up pilfering our fish and almost every tom, dick and harry without a licence turning up on the ogmore, some from many miles away.
To get the EA to respond is impossible. The police have assisted on several occasions.
This weekend must be classed as the straw that broke the camel's back. On friday a member fled the river in fear of his life after being pelted with rocks by 7 illegal anglers. He did not even challenge them.
Saturday night resulted in a member calling the police after a gang of 'travellers' turned up.
Today - well what can i say! one of our junior members was threatened. A member with learning difficulties was told that his vehicle would be 'done over' next time they saw him. Myself - well i narrowly missed being assaulted by 4 men whilst walking my dog! i was chased form the scene whilst my vehicle was subjected to foot marks!
The lack of bailiffs on our river has created anarchy on our rivers! Sorry, but never mind the fish, I am more concerned about the lives and safety of our members.
This is a sad indictment of EAW. Little be known to them they have created a 'dire' situation on welsh rivers.

The Ogmore Angling Association has my sympathy in respect of current issues and full support for future action to improve fishery protection.

Thank you Highplains,
Being fully involved with the campaign for improved enforcement on welsh rivers you are fully aware of the cause of our current problems.
For members who do not know Highplains, he has been a good friend to Ogmore Angling Association. Being spokesperson for the Clwyd Federation of Angling Clubs in North Wales, he has worked closely with the Association to get bailiffs back on our rivers.
Thank You Allan

Quote from Andy Schofield at the EAW. "Not surpisingly the activities do seem to coincide with warm sunny weather and/or bank holidays".
Hmmm. . . . looks as if I may need to dust down and wear my bat utility belt this weekend then

Royn,
You better paint your face and take some night sights as well!
Some bodyguards would be useful as well.

I was threatened last week in Newbridge Fields I called the police who informed me 999 was for emergencies and poaching is not a life or death emergency, they were doing over 30 mph . I have written to T&S magazine as they printed an interview with the MP in charge of the EA who advised us to contact the police. Next season if we all club together and employ some bailiffs with our license fees we will then be able to protect our fisheries, after all no one will get caught by the EA as they haven't go anyone. Why pay gas bill if you don't get gas?

Tony,
The EA continue to claim that poaching does not happen and that the old poachers have found easier and more profitable ways of making a living.
We all know that the 0800 80 70 60 number is not working as it should be but please, please use it. Report all such incidents to the EA and ask them for an incident number. By not calling we only reinforce their false belief that poaching is not an issue. I would even go as far as to report it now, tell them what happened and where and get an incident number. This provides them with intelligence, so helping them to know where to look, it also proved poaching is happening.
We must all report and get a number, they may not react but we will not be wasting our time.
Thanks
All the best
