Hi guys and welcome to the Ogmore system. the hares ear both in its standard form and with a bead is indeed a deadly fly both on stillwaters and on rivers. I call the goldhead version my desert island fly as if i could choose just one fly to use then this would be it- in the last twenty years it has been one of the most succesfull flies in my box hence my forum title. Small lures also take fish along with other nymphs but as the water warms and hatches increase traditional wet patterns like peter ross, black pennel, mallard and claret do well along with dries such as klinkhammers, hoppers and wickhams fancies etc etc Every fly in the box will catch on different days so experiment and in time you will have your own favourates. Confidence in a fly also has a part to play. I think the ultimate is to tie your own fly and catch fish on it whether it be a lure, traditional pattern or an immative dry-tight lines lads -goldhead
