Great to see that there are some Bailiffs still out there somewhere but why the hell do they need six at cefn mably, surely it would make sense to split them up at least in two and cover a larger area! May be some of these bailiffs were being trained to take on the job that the funding is going to run out for before the training is complete!!!! Who knows? They may even venture onto the Ogmore one day? Ha, Ha!!!! >: :-/Shows the interest that the EA have in migratory fish doesn't it. It also shows what a bl**dy lazy bunch they are as well by visiting a fishery with lots of people around it, rather than having to cover the river bank which actually requires a bit of excercise. It also gives them quick and easy figures to present.

Keith,
I must disagree with you that the Bailiffs are 'lazy'.
The few that we have do a good job. Unfortunately the only key performance indicator (KPI) that exists with regards to fisheries is the number of rod licences that must be checked.
Unfortunately it is rich pickings on stillwaters. They can check more licences in a short space of time than putting in the effort on rivers where all the crime is actually going on.
It's a pity that there is not a KPI for the number of poachers that must be caught. We might see a few more Bailiffs on our rivers then.
We can't blame the guys on the ground - just the powers to be who spend all day in thier office oblivious to what is going on in the real world.

Maybe using the word 'lazy' is wrong but in your paragraph you still use the words 'put in the effort'!Which allbeit aside from KPI's etc is still the crux of it all. A quick walk down the bank every three months is not going to sort out the poaching problem. How often does Cefn Mably lakes have an issue with poachers? Perhaps as I have thought for many years, some of the responsibility should lie with these private fishery owners to enforce a 'no Rod licence, no fish rule'. Checking everybody who comes to their fishery as they purchase their ticket to fish. Then the EA would perhaps have more time to spend on protecting wild species that are eventually going to be non existant in our rivers instead of protecting pellet fed farm bred rainbow trout. This is all just my opinion but its been the same for to long now. When I used to fish back in Hampshire I never once saw a bailiff on the Avon or the Stour, yet go to one of the private fisherys and there were the combat squad again in numbers with a short walk from the car and as you said 'rich pickings'. As for the ti*s in the office, I agree with you that they have absolutely no idea whats going on in the real world. I remember a short while ago we had a great bailiff on the Ogmore system who actually gave a d**n, pity theres not a few more like him! Im sorry to rant on but as you know I dont often speak that loudly about things unless they really get my goat!
